About Us

Welcome to Bereavement Care

Bereavement Care is a service designed to help and support people struggling to deal with bereavement.

We recognise that when someone has died, there is so much to do: organising the funeral, contacting family and friends, notifying people of the death, and dealing with the estate. It is after the funeral has taken place that so many people begin to come to terms with their new and unwelcome situation. Family and friends may offer help and companionship, but they lead their own lives too. For those whose families have grown up and left their parents to have families of their own, it is an especially difficult adjustment. Because we understand just how hard this adjustment can be, we have developed Bereavement Care.

Bereavement Care is committed and passionate about helping you to help yourself in the short, medium, and long term. Bereavement Care (previously known as The Bereavement Centre) was established in 2000 in partnership with The Co-operative Funeralcare and other trusted funeral directors.

For over 25 years, we have been supporting families across the South Coast with bereavement support sessions, well-being groups, and free educational study days. As part of our care and support, we are proud to offer in-person counselling to those living across the South of England whilst also offering virtual one-to-one counselling to people who live further afield.

Our bereavement services are available for everyone; however, we are unable to offer immediate crisis support. If you are in need of immediate services, we would recommend getting in touch with Samaritans.

Our services

We can support you in the following ways:

One-to-One Bereavement Support
Talk to a qualified counsellor or a befriender/listener in a safe, confidential private environment across the South of England. If you live outside of our main business area, we welcome you virtually, with private sessions in the comfort of your own home via Teams or other web calling services.

Wellbeing groups
Our Wellbeing groups provide a time and place where you will be able to meet other people experiencing the effects of bereavement. The people you meet will have a shared understanding of how you may be feeling. The groups are either face to face or online.

Friendship groups
The purpose of groups is to provide a time and place where you will be able to meet with other people who are experiencing the effects of bereavement and will understand something of how you are feeling. The groups meet socially once a month in different areas or online.

Educational Sessions for Businesses
We have been successfully running FREE educational sessions for professional people since 2000. We can also create workshops to fit around the needs of your business. Contact us to find out more.

Memorial Services
Through our continued work with the bereaved, we understand the first year of bereavement can be a difficult and emotional time for people. We therefore hold a memorial service in order for families to come together to celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away during the last year, in many areas.
